Flexible Instruction Day- Resource Center
School Lane Charter School has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to use up to five Flexible Instruction Days (FID) each school year to be counted as a day of school in the event that school cannot take place in-person due to inclement weather or an emergency situation. When a Flexible Instructional Day is declared, notification to the community will be carried out using our mass communication system by email, phone call, and text message, and posts will be made to our school website and social media feeds.
Flexible Instructional Days are “asynchronous” in nature meaning that students can complete their work at any time during the day. In Grades K-2, students receive green “FID Folders” that contain paper assignments to cover 5 days. In Grades 3-12, student assignments are delivered to students via Google Classroom (Grades 3-6) or ManageBac (Grades 7-12). In the event of technology difficulty, students in these grade levels also received a set of “unplugged” paper assignments in a "FID Folder" to complete as a back-up for the online work.
On FID days, each teacher is available for two hours of "Office Hours". During that time, teachers are available to meet with students using Google Meet.
In order to be marked present for the day, students must turn in work (either online or paper copies) to their teachers the first day they return from a FID. Failure to do so will result in an absence recorded on the student’s attendance record. If an excuse note is sent to school by a parent or guardian, and the note meets the condition of an excused absence, the absence will be updated to indicate it is an excused absence.
