Post Secondary Planning

The counseling department works with all students in grades 7 through 12 to explore and develop their postsecondary plans. School Lane Charter School encourages all students to discover their interests and research all of their postsecondary options so they can make an informed decision about their future plans. School counselors meet with all students in small groups during the academic year to discuss postsecondary options.  These options include, but are not limited to 4 year colleges, 2 year colleges, trade or technical school, military, gap year, and/or working full time. In addition, students will take career interest surveys to help identify potential careers. Students will learn how to research potential colleges, careers, and majors. During grades 11 and 12, the school counselor will hold individual postsecondary planning meetings with all students. School Lane Charter School’s counseling department is available to help students with researching colleges, careers, and majors, SAT/ACT testing, applying for college, creating a resume, and applying for and understanding financial aid. We also encourage parents to schedule meetings with their child’s school counselor to discuss postsecondary planning.

Naviance
Naviance and the Family Connection (Naviance) is a web-based portfolio that helps students plan and organize their high school career, as well as keep track of their post-secondary application process. School Lane Charter School encourages students to use Naviance for the college and career search. All 9th to 12th grade students at SLCS have a Naviance account. Please contact your school counselor if you cannot log into your account.

Seniors applying to two-year and four-year colleges will use Naviance to track their college applications, send transcripts, and request letters of recommendation. Students can also use Naviance to research careers and create a resume.
